This week, we were excited to find this very rare and extra special Folktek Sound Field 2 synthesizer. It carries the "2" label because it's the second of two of these Sound Field synthesizers ever made. According to Folktek, this behemoth was was designed as a "standalone acoustic-electronic bio-feedback workstation" built in the style of the brand's Impossible Box, with the same custom details built into a custom oak case with an internal power supply.
It features four acoustic elements—two garden panels, a stringed section, and a textured blank panel for capturing micro sounds—and each of those sections can be sent to the synth's four-channel mixer or to any of the other panels for processing or sampling. There are also effects sections, like delay, filter, and reverb.
"The central processing section is essentially a time machine—a piece designed to heavily alter captured loops in thousands of ways by use of a magnetic patchbay, with patchable keys," Folktek writes of the first model. "This section has 3 voltage clock and/or LFO voltage signals which can be used to sync the other sections via CV, or sent out to control external modular synthesis. Additionally, the 1/4-inch 'tap out' can be sent to any equipment that receives tap signals, or as a simple method to convert to a MIDI clock."
You can listen to the track above to hear the original Folktek Sound Field in action, or just go straight to the listing to add the second and final model to your gear collection.
