JHS has released two exciting additions to its ever-growing lineup: the Spring Tank and the Kilt V2. While originally most known for its drive pedals, the Kansas City-based pedal builder has brought more time and modulation effects to the market over the past few years.
The Spring Tank is a classic, spring-like reverb pedal, capable of providing anything from quick, slappy ‘50s-style reverb to drenched surf rock vibes.
As Joe demonstrates in the video above, the Spring Tank comes with independent “Tank 1” and “Tank 2” knobs, essentially giving you a second reverb pedal in the same unit. You can set the pedal to allow the “Tank 2” to work in conjunction with or instead of the “Tank 1” mix, allowing you to switch between settings or layer them.
The Spring Tank works well with a drive — like the Kilt V2, JHS’s update to its popular boost and overdrive pedal — in front of it. Whereas the original Kilt had two distinct sides — one for drive and one for boost — this second version is streamlined to one footswitch but still comes equipped with a huge range of boost, drive, distortion, and fuzz options.
The many voices you can achieve with the pedal are activated through a three-toggle switch system. The “Cut/Flat” toggle switch can give you a cut in bass frequencies. The “G1” toggle chooses between less or more drive, and the “G2” provides less or more fuzz.
With all toggles down, the pedal is at its lowest gain setting and purrs like low-tube saturation. From there, engaging the G1 and G2 toggles will add a bit of fire. As you can see in the second video, with the “G1” and “G2” toggles engaged together, the pedal can create some pretty wild, maxed-out fuzz.
