Very Rare Continental or 4 Row Xylophone. The instrument has 40 bars. Detail showing the labeling of the keys using the German “is” for “sharp”. The instrument is in very good working condition for its old age, however the year of manufacturing and brand is unknown, but it's almost certain made in Germany.
It has existed since the late 1700s and became extremely popular in Europe through performances by Josef Gusikow in the 1830s. The instrument has also been known as "Strohfiedel", that name suggests that the bars were placed on a bed of straw (wich later on became the plastic tubes).
There are 5 plastic tubes that fit on a double folded board to place the Xylophone on, you can also use the included case as a platform to install the Xylophone or install it on a table or custom stand.
- The plastic tubes need to be glued back on the board.
- There are 2 washers between the blocks missing (1 is in the case but broken)
- There is a corner chipped off the high E, but the note sounds OK.
The package consists of the Xylophone, case, 5 plastic tubes + board for installation and 2 wooden mallets.
