Pioneer HPM 60 - Completely refurbished

I saved a beat up pair of these speakers and decided to treat them with some love.

Someone mounted an awful 12" woofer into these, which isn't the right size for this volume so it's been replaced by a much better, high efficiency unit with of the correct size, with low distortion across its frequency spectrum. These go lower than the originals, and are also more suitable for the midband so the crossover point has been lifted to 2.5KHz and the other components replaced. Proper damping material was also added. The EQ at the back has been set to what sounds most neutral, with the mids turned down quite a bit (these were never flat from factory).

The correct 10" woofer needed a new front baffle so the cabinets are 1.5cm deeper than the originals. On top is some genuine oak veneer, with a few coats of Danish Oil and a blend of matte/satin PU varnish.

I don't know how much power these will take; I did not dare put in more than 80W RMS which was enough to turn a decent sized barn into a loud dancefloor. Given these now have better woofers than the HPM 100, and are otherwise the same, they should take more power and go louder than their big brothers.

These pictures are older; the back screws are all in and the original badges have been put back on the front, top right corner.

The paper mid driver is its weak spot at the moment. With the proper knowledge these could be swapped for something with better power handling and lower distortion, which with reworked crossovers would turn these into phenomenal speakers and allow one to really make use of the new woofer which will take 125W RMS, 250W peak. (These plans are from a friend with 5+ decades experience in designing stage, PA and HiFi audio solutions. We could discuss costs if you are interested in further modifications).
