tremendously rare Akai S1000 KB

keyboard version of the classic high-end Akai sampler.

it's a great stereo 16-voice polyphonic sampler with truly high-end possibilities, barely any modern gear can yet compete with it. like just as a example - you can have up to 8(!) loop points per sample, with custom length and rate of repeat. truly enormous amounts of other features. very flexible and fully assignable controls.

beautiful iconic high-end Akai sound. old school quality, made in Japan.

the keyboard version is super rare and almost impossible to find. the keyboard makes the S1000 a very different instrument. with built in keyboard and an option just to immediately play polyphonically, it becomes really special.

it's enormously big, and weights a ton. however, I don't mind shipping it. price of the shipping is what online courier services are really showing me, so I'm not exaggerating it. it will take me a few days to pack it, and I will do my absolute best to let it be top secure.

of course it also can be picked up in person, which is way better. but you have to have a car or to be ready to take a taxi. it’s literally impossible to carry it around a public transport.

condition is good and fully working. as you can see on the pictures - the main body is really good. but there are scratches on the back, where all the sockets are. it’s also generally a wee bit scratched and blemished here and there, but it’s not really critical, and in overall everything is fine, and the front face of the unit is as beautiful as pictured.

it has couple of relatively minor issues - first - the screen is dull. perfectly you'll have to change the screen. it's the same screen as for the S1000, and they are easily available on the internet, and changing the screen doesn't require any soldering. it's very simple. or otherwise - the size of the unit affords you to place some lamp just on the top of the sampler itself, to have an improvised backlight for the screen. that's what I was doing.

second and the last issue - the keyboard doesn't seem to respond to aftertouch. I'm not sure, maybe it requires to be just set up right in the settings, but before posting it for sale I made a test of all the functions, and I wasn't really able to get the aftertouch response to work.

also some knobs are wiggly. not potentiometers. potentiometers are perfect, just the plastic knob caps are worn.

so ideally - it might need just a bit of love and restoration, but it is fully working and pretty usable.

all the inputs and outputs are working fine. disk drive works fine. all the controls, all the internal functions, sampling, all the i/o, headphones out, midi, etc. all works perfectly.

it's updated to the OS v3.0, with 4Mb memory installed. it also has SCSI port installed on the back.

it is UK/EU voltage unit. UK power plug can be included if necessary.

last one you can find online was sold for £3500 here on Reverb, so, as they say, grab yourself a bargain.

huge body of the unit allows to place a whole minimal music production set on the unit itself. on the last picture just for fun I'm demonstrating how it can fit a sequencer, a drum machine, and a tiny synth on top of it. actually, all these devices are also available for sale. you can see them and other stuff in my profile. I'll do combo shipping/discount if you'll buy multiple things.

this sale and other sales are about my private devices exploration. all the equipment more likely was temporarily used in music project, or bought because I'm an obsessed head, who always wants to check out some new stuff, even if I don't really plan to use it.

you're very welcome to make offers, or just to have a chat.

due to the bulky, complex, and vintage nature of the unit - it's sold as described with no returns. you can check my profile feedback and request more photos/videos or even video calls, if you want to see more about the unit.

please, be sure that I do my very best to describe everything as fair and as properly as I can, but I’m not taking any responsibility for it after it leaves my home. by buying it you agree for these terms and conditions.
