Rarity
A legendary Alembic Japan model headless bass.
Since it was manufactured for only a brief period in the late 1980s and the total number of units produced was extremely small, it is known as a “legendary vintage instrument” (a rarity) that is almost never seen on the current secondhand instrument market or at auctions.
Alembic is a brand often referred to as the “pioneer of high-end basses,” known for being the favorite of Stanley Clarke.
On the other hand, Alembic Japan
was manufactured for only a brief period in the late 1980s, and because the production run was extremely limited, it is extremely rare to find one on the current used market.
This model is the AJ-II-JB, equipped with JJ-type pickups.
The body and neck are made of maple, the body back is mahogany, and the fingerboard is ebony.
It features Alembic-made pickups, delivering a powerful sound.
The controls consist of front volume, rear volume, and a filter control, and it is an active model.
With its compact body and beautiful, violin-like design, this is a truly captivating instrument.
True to the J/J configuration, it delivers a sound with well-defined contours. Combined with its powerful output, this results in a fretless sound that retains the warmth of the mahogany body while offering excellent dynamic range.

It’s in good playing condition. I’ve never adjusted the truss rod. It weighs 3.7 kg, so it’s lightweight and easy to handle.
Overall, it shows signs of use, with scratches and scuffs visible on the body.
