The Royer R-101 builds upon the classic R-121 platform with the patented offset ribbon element, but provides a more neutral midrange and "airier" treble response. This can actually lend itself very well to drum overhead and acoustic instrument recording at mid-distance, where the R-121 can seem a little too rolled-off in the top end.
