Epiphone Inspired by Gibson ES-335:At The Stray Chord, we rescue overlooked or neglected high quality instruments, that have wandered off the beaten path, rehabilitate and restore them, save beautiful instruments with songs left to sing from and fill. When you adopt one of our rescues, you get a premium finished instrument, while saving the world from deforestation and the environmental damage of fresh imports. An absolute classic, beloved by many, and, in many ways one of the ultimate player’s guitars. The Epiphone ES-335 in the classic cherry red this one is a beaut. She won the wood lottery when she was being made, some of the nicest figuring on a standard model we have seen. There is a reason why these are so popular, you get all of the style and sound of the Gibson, without the price tag, and with the “inspired by Gibson” range that’s just as true as ever, however to keep the costs down, they tend to suffer from sharp frets and a few out the box set up issues that, when she arrived, were all over! Hazing on that wonderful finish, unlevel, unfinished frets, a dried out board, with play wear and grime. She was an unwanted gift, and we gave her the love she deserved!First off we levelled, crowned, and, polished, with their edges rolled making that round C neck play as smooth and fast as she looks, the Indian laurel fretboard was then cleaned and hydrated with our preparatory system, giving her a rich gloss and slick finish. We then set the neck relief and bridge action, keeping that action buzz free, and letting you make the most out of the whole freshly intonated fretboard without choke out on bends. She has a beautiful 5-ply laminated maple body, with a huge solid maple sustain block, which her classic Epiphone LockTone Stopbar and Tune-O-Matic bridge go straight into, giving you the sustain and clarity of a solid body, with the native warmth and acoustic tones of a hollow body. We took her hazed, unloved finish and using a 3 stage process got her to a scratch and haze free mirror shine, to show off that exceptional figuring on the top.She has Epiphone Alnico Pro humbuckers, height tuned in, which are some of the most capable factory fit pickups out there, from glassy sparkle or smooth jazz warmth, all the way to raunchy blues and rock tones when driven, they’re versatile and punchy, giving her everything she need to cut through the mix live!Premium electrics by Epiphone and CTS pots have all been cleaned to make sure she’s crackle free. When you’re ready for her, she’s ready to gig, jam, or just chill on the sofa noodling, and she’ll damn good while she does it!Every guitar deserves a second chance.
