Check my feedback and feel reassured, no worries. Also check out my other listings of Vintage Collectable Speakers and Gear.I am starting to go thru my old Marshall Cabinets Celestion Speakers from the late 1960’s and 1970’s. There is also a couple I bought from John Stillwell (Dawk Sound) in the early 1980’s AKA Ritchie 80 Watters that I will be listing too. I meet John thru my friends Ronnie Dio and David Feinstein from the band Elf when I auditioned as a bass player when Ronnie was leaving. I switched to Guitar and kind of did a takeoff from them in the band that I started in 1974, Little Trolls, later (The Trolls) now Trolls 2.0 with my sons. John worked on my Marshalls and Gibson Guitars in the early 1980’s when he lived in Ithaca. He worked on Ritchie Blackmore amps. He even gave me a left handed SG truss rod cover from Tony Iommi’s guitar and put it on my right handed SG. Pretty cool. Anyways more on that as I start listings all the speakers. Not sure if I’m ready to part with the old Marshall amps, stay tuned. The following information mostly from Bygone Tones Celestion Website about this old Celestion speaker.Based on the specifications and codes you provided, this is a highly desirable vintage legendary piece of music history: an original vintage Celestion G12-65 guitar speaker (15-ohm version), manufactured between the late 1970s and early 1980s. The text on your speaker's magnet sticker documents Celestion's historic move from London to its famous "Ditton Works" factory on Foxhall Road in Ipswich, Suffolk. Named to honor the staff from their older Thames Ditton facility, this plant was the production home of the definitive British rock and metal tones of the 1980s. The Story of the G12-65The Greenback Evolution: Introduced in 1979, the G12-65 was engineered as a higher-power handling alternative to the famous G12M Greenback. It allowed guitarists to run higher-wattage amplifiers (like 100W Marshall heads) without blowing their speakers. The Sonic Profile: It is revered for its fast attack, highly controlled/tight low end, precisely tuned mid-range, and a smooth, non-harsh top end. Musical Legacy: While heavily adopted by 80s hard rock and heavy metal players, it unexpectedly became the "holy grail" speaker for elite blues-fusion artists like Robben Ford. Technical SpecificationsPower Rating: 65 Watts RMSNominal Impedance: 15 Ohms (often used interchangeably or paired in cabinets wired for 16-ohm loads)Magnet Type: Ceramic (35 oz)Voice Coil: 1.75-inch round copperSensitivity: 97 dB Historical Context of the LabelThe "Rola Celestion LTD" branding marks an era after British Rola bought Celestion in the late 1940s. Though "Pre-Rola" speakers from the 60s get a lot of auction buzz, these "Rola Ipswich" era speakers from the late 70s and 80s are incredibly sought after because the original cones have aged, softened, and broken in beautifully over nearly 50 years, offering a warmth that reissues struggle to perfectly mimicCode Breakdown & SpecificationsYour vintage speaker was manufactured on December 6, 1981 at the historic Celestion factory in Ipswich, England. Here is the exact breakdown of the information provided by your speaker's stamps and labels: Decoding the Date Code (6NW) Celestion used a specific formula for its production line stamps during this era: Day + Month Letter + Year Letter. 6: The 6th day of the month.N: Represents the month of December (Celestion's month codes skipped 'I' to avoid confusion with the number 1, making M November and N December).W: Represents the year 1981. Technical Specifications (T3054)The T3054 stamp is Celestion's specific model chassis number for this exact variation. It confirms the factory build specifications: Model: G12-65 (originally designed in the late 70s as a higher-power evolution of the classic G12M Greenback).Impedance: 15 Ohm (commonly referred to and paired as 16 Ohm in standard 4x12 Marshall cabinets).Magnet: Ceramic (35oz Medium magnet).Original Cone Type: Typically paired with a Kurt Mueller 1777 cone (75Hz resonance.Factory History The label text references the Ditton Works on Foxhall Road in Ipswich, Suffolk. Celestion completely relocated its production to this facility during the 1970s. The "Rola Celestion LTD" branding represents the definitive era of late 70s and early 80s British rock tone, highly sought after by players looking for a smooth, punchy mid-range crunch that tames harsh upper frequencies.
