Gretsch G5700 Electromatic Lap Steel Guitar
Channeling the classic sounds of '50s Hawaiian electric guitars into a modern package, the Gretsch G5700 Lap Steel Guitar is an affordable throwback with plenty to offer. Built on the foundation of a solid mahogany slab body for reams of sustain, the G5700 is complimented with a chrome string-through-body bridge and single-coil pickup that equate to rock solid intonation and rich tone that reaches the back of the room with ease. - 13
Rickenbacker Electro Model B Lap Steel 1937 - 1945
The Rickenbacker Model B lap steels from 1937 introduced a second control knob, which moved from the bass side to the treble side some time in 1939. Other minor cosmetic differences came year-to-year, such as an occasional plastic control plate, the exact type of knobs used, and white outlines on the frets. These were also the first Model B instruments to have different colors for the decorative plates on the face of the body, with black plates being the rarest. - 14

Rickenbacker Electro A-22 "Frying Pan" Lap Steel 1934

Rickenbacker Model 59 Lap Steel 1937
The 1937 Rickenbacker Model 59 can be distinguished from later models due to it having just a single volume control. 1938 (and possibly 1939) models added a second knob for tone control before these instruments were quickly discontinued. Nearly identical instruments were available post-war as model NS (or simply S) with Shaded Gray finish. - 23
Fender "Champ" Student 6-String Lap Steel Guitar
Replaced the "Champion" Lap Steel in 1956, and ran through the end of the '70s. - 26
Rickenbacker Model 59 Lap Steel 1938 - 1943
The Rickenbacker Model 59 underwent a minor change in its second year of production, adding a second control knob which quickly moved from the opposite side of the volume control to the same side. The later Shaded Gray instruments are difficult to distinguish from the later "NS" model, but can be easily identified by confirming that the width of the pickup magnet is 1 1/2".
