Fender 1964 Gold Sparkle Relic Stratocaster – Custom Shop Limited Edition, Masterbuilt by Greg Fessler. One of only 100 produced worldwide—an essential piece for any significant collection.The Master Design Series began in 2004 as a celebration and culmination of the individual tastes and techniques that each Master Builder brings to the Custom Shop. Each year, two Master Builders are given the opportunity to create a unique instrument—the kind they would choose to play day in and day out. In 2006, Greg Fessler took on this challenge by designing and building his "Sparkle Stratocaster." Greg hand-built 100 of these guitars and oversaw the production of this limited series, which was crafted by the Custom Shop team in a strictly limited run. Each guitar comes complete with a special certificate, a biography of the Master Builder, and reproductions of the original specifications and notes. As an added bonus, a DVD is included, featuring an interview with the Master Builder as he discusses the inspiration behind the instrument and the challenges involved in its creation. All of this documentation is housed in a luxury leather binder.Greg began by selecting a 1964-style alder Stratocaster body, finished in Gold Sparkle. He paired it with a smooth-grained maple neck featuring a round-laminated rosewood fretboard, a 9.5-inch radius, and American Standard frets. The most distinctive aspect of the guitar is its pickup configuration: a Texas Special (bridge), a reverse-wound/reverse-polarity Fat '50s (middle), and a '69 Stratocaster pickup (neck).
