Up for sale, a 1982 Squier by Fender '62 reissue Jazz Bass in excellent condition and in good working order. From the famed "JV" series which launched Fender Japan's Squier line, this Jazz Bass is as well crafted and tonally resonant as any instrument produced in Fender's Japanese factory. Don't let the Squier name fool you! When the Squier brand was introduced, it initially focused on high quality reissues of Fender's classic models, and many of these instruments were designed only for the Japanese domestic market and import to Europe, so as not to compete directly with Fender's USA-made offerings (and Fullerton reissues which began in the same year).
This bass has been upgraded with a pair of Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass pickups, wound faithful to Fender's golden era instruments and featuring black bobbins and cloth wire. The pots have been upgraded as well to full size USA made CTS components! The result is a Jazz Bass that has plenty of presence and brightness in the bridge, with a warmth and focus at the neck pickup that sits well in the mix while still cutting through with the ideal amount of midrange fullness. Freshly restrung with a set of Elixer roundwound coated strings, this bass plays very well with comfortable action and classic tone.
The neck has a medium C profile with the Jazz Bass' slender 1 1/2" nut width and original vintage style fretwire. The frets show moderate wear down near the nut, with only light flattening of the crowns above fret three and no buzzing or dead spots. Beyond fret seven the fretwire shows no notable wear and the rosewood slab fretboard is in fantastic shape. The headstock sports the original nickel reverse tuning machines, which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
All of the electronics work as they should, with the previously noted Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass pickups and full size CTS pots. The knobs have also been upgraded to accept the larger shafts of the USA made pots. The control cavity has been shielded for the lowest possible noise floor as well. The chrome plating on the control plate is in great shape, and the bridge with threaded saddles is also quite clean, with only light patina on the bridge base. The original neck plate is also present with the all important JV serial number denoting the manufacture of the bass in Fender Japan's first years of production. Cosmetically, the bass shows a bit of light, honest wear, the most notable of which is a series of small finish dings across the bass side horn on the body. There are also various small nicks and finish scuffs across the entirety of the body and light buckle rash on the back. The neck pickup route has also been very minimally enlarged on both edges to accommodate a slightly larger Jazz Bass style pickup, but this is completely hidden beneath the tortoise pickguard.
Don't miss out on this early JV series Jazz Bass, expertly crafted by Fender Japan!
