About this listing
This guitar was built in 2014 as part of a special limited edition to celebrate the introduction of the re-voiced 800 series Taylors. This is number 32 of only 100 made. The whole 800 series was re-voiced at this time by Andy Powers, who now runs the whole company. Some of the biggest changes were reserved for the jumbo-bodied 818e, and the guitar has been transformed into a real powerhouse. This special edition has redesigned top bracing, hide glue construction, and a figured Crelicam ebony fingerboard (from Taylor’s own sustainable Fair Trade ebony growing operation in Cameroon). The body, neck and headstock are beautifully bound in pale maple, and there is an abalone rosette and rosewood pick guard . Fret markers and headstock inlay are mother of pearl. The tuners are upgraded to the excellent Gotoh 510s in antique gold. The guitar is fitted with the Taylor ES2 active pickup system. There is a deluxe First Edition fitted hard case, and a custom First Edition suede strap. A certificate of authenticity is included, together with a one-off booklet from Taylor explaining how these special guitars were made. The guitar has two tiny marks, both less than 1mm in size. One is on the back of the headstock, the other on the underside of the lower bout (see photos). Neither is visible when playing, and both are fixable if needed. Apart from that, the guitar is in excellent condition. The guitar is what Taylor call a ‘modified Jumbo’ shape, and is easier to hold and play than the normal jumbos like the Gibson SJ200 type. The action is low and comfortable, and the guitar is equally at home with strumming, flat picking or finger style. The sound is balanced, and very, very loud! The revoicing of the 800 series has resulted in a louder, bassier and more articulate guitar than the outgoing models; this really is a great instrument. The ‘basic’ 818e retails at between £3300 and £3600, and this limited edition was considerably more expensive. Offered at a price that represents a real bargain. If possible, I’d prefer collection in person from my home in North Staffordshire (about 4 miles from Alton Towers, and within easy reach of the M1 and M5 motorways). I do have a strong, double sided guitar transit box, so it is also possible to send the guitar via courier.PLEASE NOTE; I WILL BE AWAY FROM 8TH MAY TO 30TH MAY INCLUSIVE.
