You are looking at a 2011 PRS Starla made fully in the US as a core model back when they were running these out of Maryland. This guitar has made many memories and created so many moments over the years. This guitar has all the standard appointments, the original Starla pickups which are the PRS version of a filtertron pickup giving it bright and articulate voice paired with a full mahogany neck and body to round out some of those potential sharp edges. This Starla can cover a lot of ground as the pickups are super clean with plenty of headroom to push into some greasy blues and rock. She is fully set-up and ready to rock out of the case. She weighs in somewhere in the “not a featherweight, but comfortable around your shoulders even during long sets”. I’d guess on the heavier side of the 7lb range, I just don’t have a great scale to give an exact weight. She’s very well balanced and there is no neck dive. As you can see from the pictures, some modifications have been made over the years. Most apparent is the finish was stripped from the back of the neck leaving the beautiful mahogany exposed and then treated with 10 coats of a proprietary oil. All work was performed by a certified luthier leaving it look as good as it feels. Further, a piece was added to the base of the bridge (not mechanically attached so it is easily removed) to make string changes on the Bigsby a breeze versus fighting the pin tips. I will make no claims it adds to the tone, but it surely doesn’t take away from it. Lastly, my luthier put a new, stronger spring under the arm of the Bigsby making it more responsive and smoother when creating that wonderful vibrato. There is some visible signs of play and use. A few very small (pinhead sized) dings in the paint. I did my best to photograph them and there is a dimple on the front side between the pickguard and the control pot array. It does not penetrate the paint or clear coat, but it’s there so worth mentioning. There is some visible fretwear in the standard cowboy chord spots, but still plenty of life and currently does not inhibit play as it sits. Since I‘ve had this guitar for 15 years, I had to do some research and found that some models came with a push/pull pot to split the coils, this example does not, but I’m sure it would be an easy mod to install if that was an additional piece of versatility you were seeking, but over the years I never felt that was necessary as the pickups are so well defined and clean. This Starla has so much more life to offer and memories to make and I’d love for it to continue to do so. She is meant to be played. I would keep her forever, I just don’t feel it’s right for such an amazing guitar to retire inside a case in my closet just because my time performing has come to an end. Thank you for your consideration and I will surely answer questions the best I can. Stay well and be blessed.
