This is a true one of a kind...

A 1981 Peavey T-40 bass converted into a 5-string version! This was a custom project I worked on for a long time as I always loved the many sounds of the T-40 but wanted to hear it with a low B string also.

So what was changed? Here are the modifications:

New bridge: Kahler 2450-W5 Wide Bass Fixed Bridge

New nut: Bleached bone nut

Additional tuning head:  Added a fifth original T-40 tuning head, identical to the other four

New fret inlays: Diamond design, transparent black

New pickguard: I switched to a clear pickguard to show off the gorgeous sunburst finish.

Electronics: Untouched, all original components

So how does it play? Really well! I spent lots of time getting the intonation and action just right. It plays really well and has almost no fret buzz. Of course adding a fifth string makes the string spacing tighter but it is not that different from Ibanez 5 string basses. I measure the new string spacing at 15.5mm (measured at bridge). The Kahler bridge design is the key that made this mod possible. It allows each string saddle to be independently adjusted in all six dimensions! Up, down, left, right, forward and backwards! If the spacing isn't to your liking it can easily be adjusted.

The bass body has some minor wear and scuffs expected for its age, but its in good condition. The original case was in bad shape and has been replaced with a brand new deluxe Gator TSA-approved hard shell case (GTSA-GTRBASS-LED) that includes an interior light that turns on when the case is opened; it can also be switched off if desired. I will pack the bass superbly when shipping.

The price is based on the price paid for the bass plus the cost of the aftermarket parts, the many hours of labor and care put into it, plus the cost of the luthier that helped professionally complete the woodwork such as plugging and color matching all mounting holes from the original bridge. All this to make it a true beauty and one-of-a-kind bass.

Thanks for checking it out and keep it low.
