All original 1991 Status Graphite Energy MATRIX 4-string active bass in
superb condition for its age. This is the headed version of the Energy
model. Designed and hand made in the UK by Rob Green and his team, this
rare beauty is a bit of bass guitar building history. Featuring a Woven
Graphite bolt on neck, Phenolic fingerboard, 24 Frets plus Zero Fret, Solid Walnut body
with a natural satin finish, 2 x "Hyperactive" Status 'J' Type Pickups,
Active low impedance Pre-Amp and Master volume, Pickup balance and
Tone controls. Weighing a very comfortable 3.7 kg the bass is a joy to
play, with an excellent playing action and superb tuning stability
thanks to its zero fret and Graphite neck.
When you first pick it up and play it acoustically you can instantly hear that unmistakable Status Graphite tone which gets even better when plugged in. The Pickups and active circuitry all work as they should and sound great. For a 30 year old instrument it's in excellent condition having been well looked after by one owner since new. The only noticeable wear and tear is on the Walnut body (see the photos) but no nasty scratches or dents and the Status Logos on the pickups have worn faint. As you would expect the Graphite Neck is in superb condition. The bass even comes with its original Gig Bag which is still usable but is showing its age.
Back in the day Rob Green's use of Graphite Neck construction and active circuitry was groundbreaking and this rare instrument is a fine example. Since 1981 Status have a reputation for innovative design with excellent tone and playability. The brand is probably best known as the bass of choice of Mark King from Level 42 and Mark still uses his signature model Status Graphite as his main instrument to this day. Other users include Chris Wolstenholme of Muse and Alex 'V'-MAN Venturella from Slipknot.
Original Status Graphite Gig Bag included.
