About this listing
Oh man. 1980 Made in USA “Pre-Custom Shop” Korina Flying V2. The original owner walked into Sam Ash, Brooklyn, 45+ years ago and was told this model was on hold for $700 as a special order for Peter Frampton… They were tired of waiting so it was sold then and there, brand new. Before the Gibson Custom Shop was a brand name branch, they did make custom order guitars to spec for well known names promoting the brand. Most models have the “boomerang” pickups but this V2 was customized to house these very strange and mysterious humbuckers with 1 single magnet across each one. *UPDATE* - A batch of knowledgeable fellows helped identify these pickups as Dimarzio X2N’s, which hit production in 1979. These very well may the first run of the line pickups installed in this early version V2. even better. These high gain pickups spread the volume more evenly to the strings then the notorious “thin” sound from the boomerangs. The body is routed for them specifically, and it is the only difference between this model and the factory models as well as the conforming pick guard. Beautiful natural finish with a surprisingly little amount of cosmetic wear/damage. Great shape for 1980. This guitar was loved and gigged on and used by a working musician and still functions 100%. Completely original including the hard shell case. Really awesome guitar that’s ready to be played again and so on.
