Fostex Model 80
An 8 track reel to reel recorder than prints to 1/4" tape on 7" (or smaller) reels. This means it will have the same amount of track width as a 2" 16 track recorder. It can be run at 7.5 or 15 ips. M-80 does have mic pre-amps on each of its channels via RCA inputs.
Comes with footswitch for punch-in, as well as the Fostex model 8308 Remote Control Unit with auto locate (These alone go for $250+, Sold separately in other listing).
Has Noise Reduction switch. I have lots of reels of tape, some are wiped, some may have nuggets on them, but will include reels of tape.
Comes equipped with the rare and expensive 1/4” splicing block, mounted to the front of the unit.

This unit works incredibly. Since I have used it, it has taken on a few colorful qualities that you may find endearing or you may want to have it serviced and tweaked back to it's original form. I have not and do not intend to service this machine for two specific reasons. I have used this on recordings and it fantastic for mix-down. The belts need to be replaced and all things oiled. The fast forward and auto locate functions are not working well at the moment, almost positively because this is what happens when the belts wear, however, all other functions are fully operational. I have been quoted for the repairs by a local and professional tech, with parts included at around $175, this of course depends on your tech and I will recommend mine to you.
The other reason being that there is a unique quality I have found using this machine as an effect, not unlike an echoplex or a similar open reel delay unit, with some crazy wow and flutter modulation, "warble" if you will, that changes depths depending on which track you use. The reels need an alignment adjustment if you'd like to undo this phenomenon, however as-is, you are able to use this machine in conjunction with another recording device for some natural slap tape delay with modulation. The alignment issue is slight, however it is noticeable enough that you can exaggerate the “warble” thus giving it an incredible choral quality that I’ve not been able to replicate with another device. I leave the decision to YOU. Comes with some reels of tape, they are used, wiped 1/4” reels. This is the reason for the price, otherwise these devices sell for as much as $1500 in refurbished condition. I am including Original take up reels and a reel of used Ampex 456 or 457 tape.
