This wonderful guitar is a continuation of a design from Yamaha's
"Golden Age" of guitars (1971-1989), and is beautifully preserved in its
original condition. The FG461S is an updated version of the FG460S, the
best selling of the renowned 400 series (FG450S, FG460S, FG470S &
FG480S). As essentially a continuation of the FG460S, the FG461S
includes in her "ornamentation" tasteful abalone purfling around the
face as well as an abalone rosette around her soundhole and gold
Grover-clone tuners as well as delicate mother-of-pearl snowflake fret
markers like those found on Yamaha's handmade L-series custom shop
instruments. I added some bone string pegs with abalone dot inlays and
matching strap button. Additionally, there is a very nice
mother-of-pearl "leaf" inlay in the headstock along with the "Yamaha"
name. An aftermarket under-saddle pickup has been installed, along with a
preamp that has a three-band equalizer and volume control so you can
play amplified and have some on-board control if you want. If you do a
little research, you will find that ALL of Yamaha's 400-series guitars
have held their value, if not appreciated, which is very uncommon for
inexpensive guitars from ANY maker.
This lovely instrument was born on August 3, 1994 and has been extremely well cared for during my years of ownership. She has NO cracks, splits or major dings of any kind. In fact, she has barely any marks of any kind on her at all! The top has that lovely aged patina that you see on quality vintage guitars. Her (ding-free) headstock and fretboard are bound, something seldom found on inexpensive guitars. Considering her 20 year age, her cosmetic flaws are very minimal and not noticeable unless you're looking for them. Besides, they're evidence of her mojo!
Of course, her sound is, in a word, fantastic! Great volume and projection with sustain out the wazoo. The harmonics ring like the proverbial bell! The neck is fast and the action is impeccable. She has a solid spruce top with rosewood back & sides. In addition to the purfling on the front, the back has four-ply binding, something you generally don't see in guitars under $2000. There is a rosewood overlay on the headstock, a solid mahogany neck and a beautifully detailed wood marquetry strip on the back and bottom by the strap peg. She has a rosewood bridge and a rosewood fretboard. Extremely little fret or fretboard wear, due to my having numerous guitars to choose from when playing.
My wife ordered a major reduction in my guitar collection a year or so ago, and this is one of the few I have left to sell. How many dreads do you need, right? At least that's what SHE says! To prepare her for sale, I did a complete tear-down, polishing, then waxing the body, cleaning then lemon-oiling the fretboard & bridge overnight, adjusting the neck and tuners and installing a brand new set of Martin phosphor-bronze light strings and a new alkaline battery in the preamp. Once you play her, you'll know you made the right decision, especially for the money! Her adoption fee has been reduced to $395, which includes a brand new gig bag. A hardshell case can be included for an additional $45. Check Ebay sales and you'll know that's the number. Message me with any questions or additional pictures.
