Video: Vox MV50 Rock 50–Watt Hybrid Tube Head

Huge sounds don't always come from huge packages. That sentiment certainly rings true with Vox's newly release MV50 series. Weighing in at just a measly pound, these three miniature amp heads are out to compete with the big dogs, each boasting an alarming 50 watts.

Each of these three amps are outfitted with an all–analog preamp circuit featuring Vox's new, proprietary vacuum tube (the Nutube), a Class D power amp for volume, and speaker and line/headphone outputs. What sets each of the three iterations apart from one another is the tone they promise to deliver.

The MV50 Clean promises cleaner tones and more natural headroom, while the MV50 AC is modeled after the classic chime of the AC30 circuit, and the MV50 Rock advertises more aggressive, high–gain British–style tones. But as Joe demonstrates in the video above, the Rock module is still entirely capable of cleaner, more natural tones with some careful knob dialing.

Regardless of the sound you're chasing, plugging into any one of these almost pocket–sized and budget–friendly monsters will likely make you think twice about committing to something bigger.
