Fender Releases New Tom DeLonge Strat, Undercutting Used Market

When the very first Artist Series Tom DeLonge Stratocaster was released in the early 2000s, the stripped-down, made-in-Mexico signature model was available for around $600 new.

Having now been out of production for two decades, the used models have continued to appreciate in value, as fandom around the guitar and Blink-182 continues, ranging from $700 to more than $3,000, depending on condition and finish.

Average order values for Tom DeLonge Strats on Reverb hit a peak of $2,327 in September 2021, for all models sold that month in good or greater condition. If you're decent at math, you'll realize that's nearly a 400% increase over its former new price. (And even the budget-friendly Squier Tom DeLonge Strat has shot up in value throughout this period as well.)

Since then, like so much of the used gear market, average prices have fallen from their pandemic peak. While you can find some specific guitars listed for around $1,200 or score a deal for better, the average price in June was $1,891. And in recent months, it has not been uncommon to see nicer condition Artist Series models fetch $2,499 or more.

Today, Fender has released the brand new Limited Edition Tom DeLonge Signature Stratocaster. The comeback Strat is very similar to the original—down to its Seymour Duncan Invader pickup, single volume knob, and finish options. At $1,299 new, it greatly undercuts much of the used market.

The return of the signature Strat is right on time for Blink's reunion tour—with Tom rejoining the band in October 2022 after years away—and ahead of the release of the group's latest album.

Will the new Limited Edition Strat cause the older Artist Series models to fall in price? In time, will the new model follow suit and appreciate in value? Only time will tell, so keep your eyes on the Reverb Price Guide for the Artist Series Tom DeLonge Strat to follow along.
