This week's Fess' Find is an original EDP Wasp, a quirky little vintage synth that's sure to turn heads. Despite its playful appearance, it is a powerful and versatile digital/analog hybrid mono-synth. Originally released in 1978, it has a unique black and yellow electrostatic two-octave keyboard, a built-in speaker, and pre-MIDI connection ports, making it easy to connect with other Wasps or EDP gear.
The Wasp has two digital oscillators and includes analog filters, envelopes, and controls—a hybrid setup which was groundbreaking for its time. As a result, the Wasp is one of the earliest and most distinctive mono-synths available. It offers exceptional sound quality that can be modified to produce a range of sounds, from funky basses to traditional monophonic leads, using its flexible subtractive synthesis features.
The man behind the Wasp's design is none other than Chris Huggett, who also created the legendary OSCar synthesizer and later the classic Novation BassStation which took some inspiration from the Wasp.
A Wasp popping up on the market is a rare sight, and it's no wonder they're snatched up quickly. This particular one is listed in fair condition. Sure, it has a few dings and scratches, but that just adds to its vintage character. Don't miss your chance to add this buzzing beauty to your collection.
