The story of Jérôme Thibouville Lamy's stringed-instrument division began in 1840, when Charles Buthod, a collaborator of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, founded his lutherie workshop in Mirecourt.
In a short space of time, Charles Buthod developed a large-scale workshop whose creations were sold in France and abroad. In 1848, he formed a partnership with Charles-Claude Husson, and the company operated under the name Husson-Buthod.
In 1857, they welcomed Louis Emile Jérôme Thibouville, heir to a long tradition of wind instrument manufacture dating back to the 18th century in La Couture-Boussey, Eure.
The new company was named Husson-Buthod-Thibouville.
In 1866, Jérôme Thibouville became the company's owner, and in 1867 renamed it Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy, after his wife, Lamy.
In 1896, Alfred Acoulon took over instrument production, before being succeeded in 1908 by Hugues Emile Blondelet, a luthier from Mirecourt.
In its heyday, Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy was one of the largest distributors of musical instruments in France and Belgium, particularly in the early 20th century, as evidenced by its many period catalogs, featuring a wide variety of instruments and accessories.
Here, the mandolin model (but with pegs) presented for sale appeared in JTL catalogs as early as 1867.
