The API 2500 is an extremely versatile stereo analog compressor, often referred to as the Swiss Army knife of compressors. It can be mounted in a 19" rack, and features the deposited "Thrust" circuitry for powerful and responsive bass. In addition, the API 2500's dual-channel configuration allows it to compress sources both independently with common settings and to link them into a stereo mix.

Incredibly musical, the API 2500 is essentially a bus compressor but you can use it on most sources including masters and come out with a remarkable result. Its Mix function was first introduced for the limited production 50th Anniversary Edition. This special function not only allows a crossfader but also controls the simultaneous mixing of compressed and uncompressed signals.

The OLD and NEW modes offer unique flexibility to this compressor by allowing vintage or more modern compression. Indeed, the "OLD" mode offers a retro compression called "feedback" that can be found in the 1176, Fairchild or API 525 compressors, while the "NEW" mode offers a more classic and modern compression called "feed forward".

The API 2500 can operate in automatic or manual MakeUp. The 2 VU meters on the front panel allow you to quickly and easily visualize the input, output or gain reduction.
