PreSonus Interfaces and Audio Gear

PreSonus currently makes modern mixing boards with recording capabilities and simple USB audio interfaces for computers. They make tools that are higher spec than entry level interfaces, but not entirely out of reach if you don't own your own venue or studio. The PreSonus Firestudio Mobile or Audiobox USB both provide high-quality alternatives to other audio interfaces made by M-Audio or Behringer. If you are looking to record live performances in a medium-size venue (churches or school auditoriums come to mind), the PreSonus StudioLive can mix and and record without the need for a computer.
