With NAMM 2018 right around the corner, brands are starting to tease new releases and big developments to get us excited for the upcoming year. Today, it was BandLab’s turn to stir the pot, with a short announcement regarding its plans to reboot two classic guitar brands: Harmony and Teisco.
You may know BandLab Technologies for its flagship collaborative music-making and -sharing platform that connects musicians of all kinds online. The Singapore-based company also owns an interest in Rolling Stone magazine and has branched into hardware with its first recording interfaces hitting the market last year, while also recently partnering with Heritage Guitars of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The reboot of Harmony and Teisco, however, marks something new for BandLab which is sure to excite the respective cult followings of both historic brands.
Harmony was first established in the late-1800s before it was bought out by Sears in 1916. From that point until the mid-’70s, Harmony produced more beginner instruments than any other company in the world under its brand name and others like Silvertone. Teisco started as a Japan-based budget guitar brand in 1948, churning out increasingly oddball designs in the '60s that have experienced something of a resurgence in recent years.
Both the Harmony and Teisco brand names have been used here and there since the main lines dissipated, but with a company like BandLab behind them this time, this new wave is sure to be different.
