This is a custom made/modified Fender “Vandalism” Stratocaster

It is a high end replica of the guitar made famous by Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)

(but obviously a right hand version, unlike his actual left hand guitar)

All marks, scratches, paint chips, tape, glue residue, sticker has been done by hand

Everything is modelled as CLOSELY as possible to the roadworn appearance of Kurts Vandalism Strat

(but flipped to right handed)

But, it is deliberately not 100%, as some original body wear/markings were already present

A massive amount of experience is behind the work

(my 6th “String Switch Noise” VANDALISM build)

Not to mention the many, many hours of work

Just some of the meticulous details include:

Missing bottom tone knob, selector switch tip, and backplate

Black and silver strap tape

Correct vinyl and sized Vandalism sticker

HSS pickup configuration/routing

Placement of all aesthetic paint chips, dents, and scratches

Aged parts and components

Aside from the aesthetic appearance it has some MAJOR tonal upgrades

Including full high end rewiring, and of course the upgraded humbucker

A 1980s era Seymour Duncan DCL Humbucker has been fitted

(this has been on my parts bench for a long time, waiting for a special project)

The DCL is an 80s Duncan Custom humbucker, wound by Lidia Daniel

Essentially an SH-5, medium output humbucker

It has custom wound coils to dish out a ‘P.A.F.-on-steroids’ style tone

It comes is incredibly close to THAT Nirvana guitar tone

Lot’s of sustain with clearer overtones, pushes through distortion/high gain its screams

Both the neck and middle pickups are original Fender JPN Alnico single coils

The following upgrades have also been made

Using only the best high end parts, professionally installed

-CTS 250k Vintage Dish back “No Load” tone pots

-CTS 250k Vintage Dish back Volume Pot

-Switchcraft input jack

-Oak Grigsby USA 5-way switch

-22 gauge, waxed braided, vintage cloth wiring

-Sprague .04 mfd orange drop tone capacitor

-Sprague .001mfd orange drop “treble bleed” capacitor

-120k Allen Bradley 1/4 watt Carbon Comp resistor

Wired with both “treble bleed” volume and “no load” tone control

A “No-Load” pot works like a standard tone control when used between setting 1-9. Once set to 10 it is then activated to true bypass. This essentially “removes” the tone control and capacitor from the circuit. This will give you a cleaner audio path and the tinniest increase in clean volume.

A “Treble Bleed” circuit is added to the volume pot/s to improve taper and remove the unbalanced roll off. This keeps your clean tones clean and the high end frequencies consistent when turning the volume up and down through 1-10. This is the perfect upgrade if you use manual volume swell as an effect. Or if you are using your guitar volume pot to react with and against overdrive, distortion, or fuzz effect pedals.

The neck is an original Fender Japan Maple one piece, with a Slab Rosewood fretboard

It is from an “S” serial 2006-2008 - “ST50” model stratocaster

It has a modern flat oval profile and is extremely fast to play

Standard 7.25” board, vintage frets, 25 ½” scale

The body is something special, and was also saved for this special project

(it already had a lot of road wear, and a humbucker route done some time in the past 40 years, so it was perfect for this project)

It is an Original body from a Fender Japan ST62-55 model – JV serial

This is genesis for Fender Japan, it is the very first models form 1982-1983

Identifiable with the red ink, circle “C” stamp in the neck pocket

And also the correct contours, and worm and pickup routes

Set up with medium low action with D’Addario 10-46 strings

One for the collector, who will not be afraid to play the hell out of it

If in gig/soft case it is once again bubble wrapped/foam reinforced before being boxed. Each package/box is custom cut and fit in heavy duty double corrugated shipping cardboard. Finally, the boxing will have copious amounts of high visibility “Fragile” and “This way up” warning labels.
