About this listing
1977 Gibson RD Artist owned by legendary Whitesnake guitarist Bernie Marsden from new and used throughout his career until his death. It is the finest example of a first year Gibson RD in the world toured by a professional artist. You can see a historical photo of the guitar on stage with Bernie and Whitesnake attached to this listing. The first year Gibson RD Artist is the most sought after and desirable in the world. It has the longer 25.5" scale commonly found on Fender guitars, which allows the player to explore lower tunings. It also has Moog Electronics, which were discontinued shortly after the first model year. These are significant, as the Moog electronis offer switchable bright mode, treble boost, bass boost, compression and expansion. Gibson's parent company at the time, Norlin, also owned Moog and wanted to catch the popular synthesiser trend in late 70s rock and pop music. The RD model name stands for "Reasearch and Design." This is an incredibly rare opportunity to have a legendary guitar owned by a legendary guitarist kept in extraordinarily good condition. I acquired this guitar directly from the Bernie Marsden estate and have other instruments and relics from his career. I also have several amps and cabinets I acquired from him when he was alive.
