[Overview]
YAMAHA A Clarinet Custom Series, SE Shimokura Original limited-production model. Grenadilla body. Silver-plated keys. One barrel (A 650). Left-hand Eb/Ab lever key added, right-hand pinky Eb/Ab and C/F keys fitted with rollers. Manufactured in the late 1990s. Included accessories: genuine double hard case.

[Condition]
The gold-tone maker's logo on the barrel and body has faded. No damage to the plating and no crack repair history on the body. Otherwise, only minor handling marks and light polishing wear on the keys here and there — an overall clean example. Fully overhauled with all new pads and corks.
*The included barrel is the standard A650, but pitch runs slightly high; depending on how and when you play, you may need to pull the barrel out roughly 1-1.5mm.

Built on the base of the YAMAHA Custom SE series A clarinet, the YCL-843II, this is a Shimokura Gakki original limited-production model. A left-hand Eb/Ab lever key has been added, and rollers are fitted to the right-hand pinky Eb/Ab key and the C/F key — a genuinely practical special specification aimed at improving playability and accommodating complex fingerings.

The SE series' signature character is a response that naturally receives the breath, paired with a soft resonance that wraps around the player. It's not a model designed to punch the sound sharply forward, but rather one where tone stays even from high to low register, blending smoothly into an ensemble. Rather than competing on flashy individuality, it's a solid instrument that delivers the calm resonance and manageability expected of an A clarinet.

Because the included A650 barrel runs the pitch slightly high, you'll need to pull it out by about 1-1.5mm depending on your playing environment and setup. If you want a more stable setup, picking up a barrel of a better-matched length is also an option. Even accounting for that, there are no major issues with the instrument's condition or tone, and it's well worth considering as a practical instrument.

In addition to cleaning the body, it has been fully overhauled with new pads and corks throughout. You can start playing right away without needing to budget for further repair costs after purchase. It also comes with a genuine double case that holds both a Bb and an A clarinet — a nice touch for clarinetists who switch between instruments often.
