About This Listing

The National Stringed Instrument Corporation made some subtle changes as the tricone resonator guitar matured.  The hand-engraved border around all the body edges of this circa 1934 Style 1 would be the most obvious enhancement, and today we refer to that as "Style 1.5". Other improvements were aimed at the player: slightly radiused fingerboard and gear-over engraved Waverly tuners. By this point, the patents were grated with the patent numbers stamped on the body and coverplate.

Any round neck Tricone is rare, but this particular variation is tough to find. It is completely factory original except for the tailpiece, but you will get the broken original with the guitar. I replaced it with a more corroded but correct and unbroken vintage National tailpiece out of my parts box. Outstanding condition with light patina and a few fine scratches but no serious dents.
My luthier reset the neck for top playability, and repaired the hinges of the original case which are still a bit weak. The original cones and the original frets are in fine functional shape with many years of service left for you to enjoy. The sound is magnificent, with a voice as beautiful as the shiny engraved German Silver body. You'll admire the looks and the tone every time you take this rare Style 1.5 out of the original hard case.
