One of the last artisans of what the 20th century called... 'music of the devil' José Luis Toxo, a native of Boimorto, is one of the few Spanish luthiers who makes electric guitars by hand // Created in 1931, this instrument was used by the birth of rock. Computer, mobile phone, standard light bulb, washing machine or television coexist with the electric guitar in the results of the surveys on the best inventions of the 20th century. In 1931, that instrument translated, with the help of the amplifier, the current into manageable sounds and the music of the devil, rock and roll, was born, and with it a gigantic industry. This evolution came at the request of jazz musicians, an elite genre today but a century ago it was popular music. "The Gibson Les Paul of the fifties is second to none, its models and also the Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster are still the best in the world, those people from the fifties knew what they were doing." Says Jose Luis Toxo, a luthier from Boimorto "but a resident of Curtis." He is one of the few craftsmen of the electric shock six strings still in existence today. As soon as we arrive at EL CORREO, while his pieces pose for the photographer, we allude to the late Compostelan luthier Pablo Seoane, a fundamental part of a select environment to which Toxo arrived adding passions: "carpentry and rock". "I've been a professional for 10 years but doing experiments on my own between fifteen and twenty, with self-taught training based on tests, tests... and more tests". As so often happens in southern Europe, an area with potential demand like yours lacks the structure to train workers. Today there is a Play per house and an electric guitar for every four households, but there is a lack of centers that provide training related to these resources. "I know that there is a four-week course in Formentera but little else. On the Internet there are pages like El Rincón del Luthier, which is part of a forum on guitars, but on the Internet there the information is somewhat vague. Almost all of his guild is in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia". Toxo, which attends orders and orders from Galicia, León, Asturias and even from Extremadura and Euskadi. "In Galicia, I only personally know someone who is dedicated to the same thing, Javier Moldes, although there are four or five more. Here we have a lot of work favored by the demand from the orchestras," he points out. "I also have many non-professional music clients who have a guitar and take care of it like others do with a car or a motorcycle." He is part of the group ITH and also of the Modern Discovers ("with these I make versions) and although his guitars are powered by electricity, he assures that everything starts before. "I try every instrument without plugging in because there's a lot of cheat today and the tone quality is already there."
