Washburn J6 1990 Sunburst

10-1928 exquisite 1990 (second-year) Tobacco Sunburst Wash burn J-6 is a classic arched spruce top hollow body electric guitar of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Wash burn is well-known for their acoustic guitars and they made the J-6 to acoustic standards: the J-6 does not need to be plugged in to shine. But boy does it shine when it is plugged in! The neck pickup sounds huge and warm while the bridge pickup has a bright attack for soloing.This guitar has tone for miles and plays like a dream. I got it from the original owner and he kept it in great shape, even the gold is still shiny.

The J-6 was made from 1989 to 2004 in Korea and is modeled after the Gibson ES-5. In 1995 it was renamed the Montgomery even though Wes Montgomery almost always played a Gibson L-5 CES, which has a carved spruce top not the arched figured maple top of the ES-5. Close enough since both guitars are 3.75 inch deep single round cutaway hollow body Gibson electric guitars now priced well out of most people’s budget. The J-6 is a good substitute for either and sold for $1200 retail in the ‘90s. This is a pre-Montgomery J-6 guitar and has the original W tailpiece.

This J-6 guitar has a raised black pick guard on a bound 3.75 inch deep hollow body in excellent condition with maple back and sides and an arched spruce top with two f-holes that ring out bright and clear. The maple neck has a 20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with split rectangular abalone inlays topped with a bound blackface peghead with an abalone diamond “W” logo inlay and Grover tuners. The two Washburn humbucker pickups are controlled by two volume and two tone knobs and a three-way selector switch. The guitar has an adjustable tune-o-matic bridge with a metal “W” trapeze tailpiece and gold hardware. The neck is straight, the action is low and smooth, it has flat wound strings, the frets are still good and the electronics work properly. Comes with a hard shell case.        .
