Here is a rare chance to a Hoyer Taurus Bass.
This is number 106. Only around 250 copies were handmade in Germany in different versions. This is the version with the tip at the bottom of the body, reminiscent of the Alembic basses of the time. Funnily, the headstock is identical to the “Batwing” headstock of the popular early Aria Pro II SB basses. The body is probably made of ash. The multi-strip neck is made of maple and walnut. The fingerboard is made of wenge. DiMarzio pickups were installed ex works. Model P (DP122) in the neck position and Model One (DP120) in the bridge position. Both can be switched to series and parallel with the mini switches. The bridge is Made of solid brass and string-through. This bass also has Schaller tuners ex works.
When I got the bass, it was hardly playable, so I had to make some minor modifications:
The heavy, solid brass frame for the bridge pickup was much too thick and the pickup was so high that the strings touched the pickup cover when playing. That's why I made new frames out of laminated wood that visually fit very well and bring the bridge pickup to the correct height. The bridge itself, also made of solid brass, was also too thick. I removed a good millimeter from the underside to allow for an ultra-low string position.
The bridge and saddle have been freshly polished and coated with Zapon varnish to prevent them from tarnishing again.
I replaced the knobs, of which there were only 2 originals, with similar ones.
Otherwise the bass is in its original condition and has not been tampered with.
The paint is a very dark, slightly transparent brown (almost black) and is in excellent condition apart from a few typical age-related stress cracks.
The neck is straight as an arrow and the truss rod rotates in both directions and works.
The original pickup frames and the 2 original buttons are included.
Despite the size and the solid brass parts, the bass is not too heavy at 4.65 kg.
It sounds and plays fantastic! Lots of character with infinite sustain.
It comes with Discount security locks.
An incredible eye-catcher!
Everything else can be found in the pictures or just ask.
