A special bass designed by John Entwistle, bassist of The Who!

The Buzzard is a model created by John Entwistle, the legendary bassist of The Who, and Hans Peter Wilfer, founder of Warwick.

Buzzard means bird of prey. As the name suggests, its ferocious look leaves a strong impression.

In 1985, Hans Peter Wilfer was asked by John Entwistle to create a special bass suitable for his playing. The two discussed and embodied John's ideas, and sketched the design.

This model, the most unique of Warwick's many models, was released in 1985 and production ended in 1995.
It was reissued in 2003, two years after John Entwistle's death, and is popular as a bass that symbolizes John Entwistle.

This is the original 1986 model.
Since no spec sheet is included, it is only speculation, but the body material is thought to be zebrawood. The fingerboard is wenge.

The inlays are not Arabic numerals, so it may have been a custom order.

The headstock is the large type before it was made smaller. The bridge is Warwick's original separate bridge.

The pickups are EMG P-type pickups in a combination of upright and inverted positions, which allows for a clearer definition of the bass strings.

The controls are Vol/Bal/2Band EQ (stacked).

It has such an impactful look. The headstock design was later revised and made smaller, which explains the body balance, but this is an electric bass with a unique presence in the history of the bass!
