A superb sounding Echorec Baby for sale in excellent condition and working order.

This is actually the second time we've seen this particular Baby. Some time ago we sold it to Sam Shepherd (aka incredible producer/band-leader Floating Points). He used it on several tracks, and then when his live project got off the ground it was one of two of our Binsons that he took on tour - see below for a shot of it wearing its florescent stage tape with pride.

Recently he traded it in with us for 1970s Binson Echorec P.E.603-T - built like a tank and so better for touring, and with the added bonus of a varispeed modification. And so (not for the first time) one of our Echorecs has come back to us - we've given it a check over and some minor repairs - and now it is back available again. We're particularly pleased that this has happened in this case as it is a truly superb-sounding example - tempting us to swap it for our studio Baby (but we stopped short as we've too much history with that machine to part with it).

The cosmetic condition is also excellent. Minor scuffs and dings only, and some slight marking of the plexi face (only visible at certain angles). The voltage selector/fuse assembly had cracked and has been repaired. It has also been fitted with a new custom-wound mains transformer for worldwide use. The setting marked 280 is now actually the 240v supply (we suspect this was supplied ready for fairground use!).

Sonically this is up there with the best we've sold. For us it does everything you'd want from one of these machines. Demos to follow soon (either check back here or keep an eye on our Instagram Feed). If you have any questions about this item please get in touch (but if you are seriously interested then don't delay - we don't expect to have this here long).

Binson Echorecs are amazingly-engineered machines: where a tape echo's (ie Copicat) input sound is recorded to tape, on a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning disc which has replay heads positioned around it. It is possible to select single and repeating echoes - these units have a sound all of their own. They look fantastic at night (or on a darkened stage) with the magic eye valve gowing green and the backlit plexiglass fascia.

Binsons were one of the must-have pieces of equipment for bands in the early sixties, alongside the Fender Stratocaster and Vox AC30. Famously-used and abused by Barrett, Gilmour, Waters and Wright of Pink Floyd in the 60s and early 70s (Echorec 2s are very much in evidence on Live at Pompeii and can be seen on photos from many Floyd live shows), Binsons are increasingly sought-after today by studios, mix engineers and producers for their unique sound: Michael Brauer (Stones, McCartney, Coldplay) famously has an Echorec 2 in his arsenal of vintage delays.
