About this listing
Up for sale is a stunning Gibson Memphis ES-339 in Cherry Red, built during 2013 at the Memphis plant. This example is in very good, clean condition with very light wear and light natural tarnish to the nickel-plated hardware, which offers some serious style to match its tone. It sports 57 Classic humbuckers, traditional Gibson wiring, and Keystone button Kluson Deluxe style tuners. These tuners are somewhat lighter than the Grover Roto-Matics that are used on some versions, which can aid the guitar’s balance. Overall, this is a very comfortable guitar to play. The 339 quickly became a favorite in the semi-hollow Gibson line after its introduction in 2007, thanks to its small size, lighter and fabulous 335-meets-Les Paul tone. The Gibson Classic ’57 Pickups are a perfect match to the body design.About:The ES-339 represented the next generation from the Custom Shop of Gibson's iconic ES electric guitars. It was built from 2007 until the Gibson Memphis plant closed in 2019, and the 339 is now built in Nashville with some small changes. It gives you all the iconic semi-hollow body tone, sustain, and warmth of an ES-335, but in a smaller, lighter, and far more comfortable body size (closer to a Les Paul). Whether you play blues, jazz, rock, or modern indie, this ES-339 is an incredibly versatile workhorse. In 1996, Gibson launched the short-lived ES-336, a scaled-down version of the classic ES-335. This model retained the key playability elements of the 335 in terms of scale length, fingerboard width and hardware selection. However, the body size was reduced from 16 inches wide at the lower bout to 14 inches, and the length is proportionally smaller to retain the shape and contours. For the ES-339, the body width was increased by 1/4 inch. There is a third variant, the Custom Shop CS-336, introduced in 2001 and replacing the ES-336.Another major difference between the ES-336 and ES-339 is that the ES-336 was built with “tonally carved” Mahogany, essentially a shaped and chambered block providing the sides, back, and center block, and a Maple laminate top, while the ES-339 uses the same construction style as the ES-335, with Maple laminate back and sides and a Maple center block. For the audience, there’s hardly any visual difference between the two models.Specs:Body Shape: 339Top: 3-ply Maple/Poplar/MapleBack: 3-ply Maple/Poplar/MapleBracing: SpruceCenterblock: MapleBinding: Single-ply CreamFinish: Gloss Nitrocellulose LacquerNeck Material: MahoganyProfile: Rounded “C”Scale Length: 24.75″ / 628.65mmFingerboard Material: RosewoodFingerboard Radius: 12″Number Of Frets: 22Frets: Medium JumboNut Material: Graph TechNut Width: 1.7″ / 43.053mmEnd of Board Width: 2.26″ / 57.4mmInlays: Acrylic DotsHardware Finish: NickelBridge: ABR-1 Tune-O-MaticTailpiece: Aluminum Stop BarTuning Machines: Kluson Deluxe with Keystone buttonsPickguard: Black 5-plyControl Knobs: Black Top Hats with Silver ReflectorSwitch Tip: CreamNeck Pickup: 57 ClassicBridge Pickup: 57 Classic +Controls: 2 Volumes, 2 Tones & Toggle SwitchCondition & Functionality:Condition: ExcellentElectronics: 100% functional.
