A true collector condition piece. Reverb does not give me the opition of "Mint Condition" because I am not a guitar retailer. Im telling you straight up, THIS GUITAR IS MINT CONDITION. I took plenty of photos of all angles to show you and some are enhanced with the flash to show you the ornate details of the relic process used to capture this the presence of this legendary guitar. The checking, every dimple, nick and wear pattern. An incredible work of art you would expect from the world class Gibson Custom Shop.Tony Iommi didn't just play heavy metal — he invented it. After losing the tips of two fingers on his fretting hand in an industrial accident, Iommi rebuilt his technique from scratch. He tuned down to loosen the strings, used lighter strings and fashioned thimbles from a melted plastic bottle to fret the strings. The result was a sound no one had heard before. Dark, heavy, monolithic. And at the center of it all was a battered 1964 Gibson SG Special he called the “Monkey” — named for the quirky decal of a monkey playing a violin he added to the body in the early 1970s. That guitar powered every Black Sabbath album and tour of the classic era. It is arguably the most historically significant rock guitar of the 20th century. In 2020, Gibson Custom Shop made a forensic, note-for-note recreation of Tony’s guitar. THIS GUITAR. Not an inspiration. Not a tribute. An exact replica, right down to every dent, mark and modification Iommi made to the original over decades of use. The pickups were wound by an apprentice of the late John Birch, the British pickup builder who created the originals by hand. The zero fret, the stop tailpiece bushings, the polyurethane-coated fingerboard — every detail matched to the original instrument. Iommi himself inspected the result and said: "I was amazed when I saw it. I went, 'My god!' It just shocked me. This new model is exactly, exactly the same as the original, right down to every little mark and dent. It's just incredible."Gibson made 50. Twenty-five right-handed. Twenty-five left-handed, like the original. Every one signed and numbered by Iommi in marker. This is #19 of those 25 left-handed examples. As new, unplayed, complete.Yes, this is a left-handed guitar. Tony Iommi is left-handed. That is the point. I am a right-handed player. I bought this guitar because I am a guitar collector and a lifelong Black Sabbath fan. I never played it and never intended to. To me, this guitar was never made to be played — it was made to exist as an artifact of one of the most important musicians in the history of the heavy metal genre. The Riff Master himself. If you are buying this to hang on a wall, display in a case or add to a serious collection, handedness is completely irrelevant. The original was left-handed. This re-creation is left handed. It does not get anymore authentic than this.Specifications:Model: Gibson Custom Shop Tony Iommi "Monkey" 1964 SG Special Replica — Left-HandedYear: 2020Number: #19 of 25 left-handed (50 total worldwide)Body: One-piece mahogany, aged to match the originalNeck: Mahogany, set neckFingerboard: Rosewood, polyurethane-coated to replicate Iommi's modified originalFrets: Zero fret, matching the original's modificationPickups: John Birch-style — wound by an apprentice of the late John Birch to original spec; chrome-covered P-90 styleHardware: Stop tailpiece with original-spec bushings, period-correct appointmentsFinish: Vintage Cherry, painstakingly aged by Gibson Custom Shop to match the originalMonkey decal: Present, faithfully reproducedSigned: Hand-signed and numbered by Tony IommiAttention Mr. Iommi, his friends or associates: If you agree to autograph this guitar for a SECOND TIME, I will end this auction immediately and create a new listing with 100% profit to a charity we can agree upon.
