Fernandes FPM – Late ’70s/Early ’80s – Neck-Through Precision-Style Bass – All Original

Up for sale is a Fernandes FPM, a rare neck-through Precision-style bass built in Japan between 1979 and 1982. This one is a 1979 one. These instruments are highly regarded for their craftsmanship and sustain, thanks to the through-neck construction and premium woods used.

  • Neck-through construction – 5-piece maple/mahogany neck
  • Maple fingerboard
  • Sen (Japanese ash-lookalike) body wings
  • All original
  • Weight: 4.441 Kg

Condition: Very good overall, with some signs of wear consistent with age.

  • The truss access was enlarged by a previous owner, and a luthier built a custom truss cover. (Originally these basses required a special guide rod – no longer necessary after this mod.)
  • One headstock piece had started to separate (a typical issue with multi-piece ’70s/’80s builds, also seen on Norlin-era Gibsons) and has been professionally re-glued.
  • Otherwise, the instrument is solid, fully functional, and sounds fantastic.

This is a great opportunity to own a Japanese vintage neck-through bass with tons of character, sustain, and history.
