This is a cassette player from 1978. That is a solid nine years before I was born. Because of the date code on the bottom, I can also tell you that it was made in Japan. I have never been to Japan. My friend is actually in Japan right now, Sarah. Apparently their money is very pretty. So there are two key factors with this machine of which I am a complete stranger.

However, since it has come into my possession, down into the workshop, I have come to know it in a way I believe no other human being has.

This machine has been given new drive belts, meaning it will last a while longer and plays at a consistent speed. The speed can also be manually set with a slider on the front panel. There is also a volume slider which changes the volume. It has a lockable case so no one will steal your research in the office. It also has old business cards from Ohio. Also the manual because it honestly, although it has character, is a little confusing at first, a little bit of "why are these buttons so big?" vibes.

Another huge plus of this machine, really a big selling point actually, and I think it’s I’m really unsure as to why it didn’t quite revolutionize the cassette player format back in 1978 in Japan made by Craig, but this feature is the sort of phone-like extension thing with button and slider switch that you can use to literally just say whatever you want into the tape recording mode. It gives you handheld access so it feels kind of like you’re on an old landline phone, or perhaps a high-profile journalist taking employment-threatening chances in a busy newsroom.

I really think Craig missed out on marketing this aspect of the machine. One of the many reasons I hang my head in shame when regarding the human race.
