This guitar has just returned from the Preston Thompson shop in Sisters Oregon where Preston and his crew went over the guitar and completed a few updates. New nut and saddle, slight scallop of the X braces and all new setup. These upgrades brings this guitar inline with their new DMA's that have been showing up everywhere it seems. Check out Billy Strings or Trey Hensley for their new Preston Thompson DMA's they are now playing!
This is Preston Thompson DMA (Dreadnought Mahogany Adirondack) #126. I purchased this guitar brand new from Smoky Mountain Guitars in June of 2015. I'm guessing the guitar was completed in 2014 or 2015 but I'm not certain. The term "used" barely applies to this instrument as it is flawless. It has had very minimal play time and hasn't suffered a single scratch or ding.
As you can see the guitar features Cuban Mahogany on the back & sides and a very nice piece of Adirondack Spruce on the top, with tortoise shell appointments that give it that very traditional "18" style look. The neck is very comfortable, fairly slender, and transitions from a C-Shape near the nut to a slight V-Shape as you work your way up the neck. This guitar sounds really great, is very balanced and articulate. The tone, to my ear, is similar to a vintage Martin D-18 tone only perhaps slightly less "woody" with a touch of modern "shimmer" in the trebles. Comes with deluxe hardshell case.
Back & Sides: Cuban Mahogany
Top: Adirondack (Red) Spruce
Nut Width: 1-3/4"
String Spacing (at Saddle): 2-1/4"
Weight: 4 lb., 8.375 oz.
Tuning Machines: Waverly Nickel Open Back
Nut & Saddle: Bone
