Oh boy… Here is a wonderful 1957 Gibson Super 400 CES in excellent condition! The vivid sunburst really shows off the fine grain in the Spruce top and the highly figured Maple back, sides and neck. All Gold Hardware.

The Neck:
The inlays and multiply bindings remind you of a Les Paul Custom motif. The large peghead shape is bound with cream binding with 5-ply purfling seen on the face, inside the binding layer. Up top, in the center, you’ll see the block-y Gibson pearl logo inlaid. Just below the logo is the large “diamond” Super 400 main peghead inlay of rectangular and triangular pearl pieces. And, further below that, you’ll find the large Super 400 black truss-rod cover with white border.
The Gabon Ebony fingerboard shows 5-ply cream bindings on the face, at the edges. Side bindings show 3-plies. Fingerboard also has large sides dot position markers. Ebony fingerboard has large pearl block inlays made up of mostly triangular slabs, arranged with some rectangular pieces to make an elaborate pearl block inlay.
The blackened back of the headstock has a 3-pc pearl diamond inlay. The neck has a very comfortable “U” profile. There is an Ebony stringer inset into the length of the back of the neck. Three-ply heelcap. Strap button installed in heel. Kluson Stayfast closed back tuners.

The Body:
The Super 4oo is one of Gibson’s largest jazz boxes, with the body being 18″ wide at the lower bout. This model being a “CES”, it has a rounded (or Venetian) cutaway. The body has 7-ply cream bindings seen on the face, with 3-ply bindings seen at the sides. The f-holes are also bound with 3-ply cream bindings there. Original cream plastic end pin. Expert football patch repair at the jack.

Two original Gibson “Staple” P-90 pickups. Super 400 elaborate pickguard still installed and intact, bound with 5-ply cream bindings. Original early tune-a-matic bridge on Rosewood base. Trapeze tailpiece. The Maple back is an expanse of 2-piece bookmatched figured Maple with 3-ply binding around the inside back edge and 3-ply seen at the sides.

This is an original 1957 top-o-the-line Big Beautiful Gibson Super 400 in very clean condition with its original hardshell case! Very few were made in 1957.
