TEAC X-2000R, serviced by Wiktor Amps. All functions tested and passed with excellent results. Expected to reliably function as new. Cosmetically very good (see photos), with minor signs of previous use, but no significant issues.
Notes from the technician:
Unit has a new drive belt and speed for 7.5 and 3.75 IPS was calibrated for proper speed. Playback amplifier is calibrated for 185nW standard, 0dB on the meter corresponds to -11dBM (.195V), making it a good unit for home stereo use. Due to lack of EE type tape, record amplifier has been biased for Quantegy 456. Adjustable bias control allows for a variety of tape formulations to be acceptable. Unity gain on record is with input control set to 8. Dolby encoder tested good. Playback and record heads in both directions were aligned with proper calibration tapes and heads show minor wear with plenty of life in them (85%+).
Ships worldwide, or local pickup can also be arranged. Quoted international shipping estimate is for shipping to Australia, the furthest destination from my location in the USA. Please inquire for a shipping quote to your specific international location. The package will be large, heavy, delicate, and insured for the full value of the unit, so shipping will be a significant cost.
From the owner's manual:
Description
The X-2000R incorporates a variety of functions and features including dbx noise reduction, an auto-locator function which is convenient in replay and editing and block-repeat.
To maintain very stable tape motion with optimum tape tension, it uses a full tension servo control system in which a photo-interrupter senses the position of the tension arm so that the servo mechanism can adjust the torque of the reel motor.
This mechanism eliminates the need for manual switching when using different types of reels.
In the design of the electronic circuits the same concepts were applied, especially for the high level recording required by professionals.
The X-2000R was the top of the line reel to reel model made by TEAC. 4 tracks, 2 channels, plays quarter inch wide tape and can play 7" and 10.5" reels.
It has 6 heads (cobalt amorphous record and playback), fully bi-directional, 3 motors and dual capstan drive system (belt driven).
Two speeds, 7.5 IPS (19 cm/s) and 3.75 IPS (9.5 cm/s), electronic real time counter (hour, minutes and seconds) and full tension servo control, which means that you can use any size of reel without adjusting the tension manually by a switch.
It's one of the few machines that has a built-in decoder/encoder dbx type I professional noise reduction system.
The transport function is computerized and includes return-to-zero, return-to-cue, program, repeat, set-cue and other features. Owner's manual is available via google search.
