At first glance it looks like a simple chorus pedal, but a few seconds spent exploring its six control knobs quickly reveal a far more ambitious concept.Like all Boutique Series pedals, the Dreamstar is built to an exceptionally high standard. Its thick metal chassis immediately inspires confidence and recalls an era when pedals were designed to withstand years of rehearsals, touring, and heavy stage use. Nothing feels fragile or cost-cutting; everything about it reflects durability and long-term reliability.Unlike a conventional chorus pedal, Rocktron equipped the Dreamstar with two completely independent chorus circuits housed in a single enclosure. Each section features its own Rate, Depth, and Dream (level) controls. This unique architecture allows each chorus to be used individually or layered together to create remarkably rich and complex textures. From the first few chords, the sound quality is impressive. With only one chorus stage engaged, the Dreamstar delivers a warm, musical, and natural modulation that adds thickness and dimension without masking the character of the guitar. Clean tones become fuller, arpeggios gain movement, and open chords take on an almost three-dimensional quality. The real magic happens when both chorus sections are combined. By blending two different modulation speeds and depths, the movement becomes far more sophisticated than that of a traditional chorus. The result often recalls the legendary studio modulation racks and chorus-equipped amplifiers of the 1980s. The sound naturally expands, gaining depth and width without ever becoming artificial or overwhelming. One of the Dreamstar’s greatest strengths is its versatility. With subtle settings, it provides a gentle, almost imperceptible movement that enriches the signal. Increase the depth and level controls, and it can produce lush ambient textures, expansive soundscapes, and dramatic modulation effects perfectly suited for atmospheric music, melodic rock, pop, and classic 1980s-inspired tones.Despite its flexibility, operation remains remarkably straightforward. The controls are intuitive, allowing players to build their own chorus sound progressively by adding a second layer of modulation. Where many chorus pedals impose a single sonic character, the Dreamstar lets the guitarist precisely shape the desired amount of movement, depth, and spaciousness.Tonally, the pedal sits somewhere between the warm character of a Boss CE-2, the expansive width of a Roland Jazz Chorus, and the richness of classic 1980s studio chorus units. Certain settings even hint at the refined modulation of a TC Electronic SCF, while the ability to stack two independent chorus circuits gives the Dreamstar a personality entirely its own.If its tonal DNA had to be summarized, it would look something like this:40% Roland Jazz Chorus30% Classic 1980s rack chorus units20% Boss CE-210% TC Electronic SCFThe overall impression is that of having two excellent analog chorus pedals housed in a single enclosure. This approach makes it possible to create textures that cannot be achieved with a conventional chorus and gives the Dreamstar an exceptionally immersive and addictive sound. In the end, the Rocktron Dreamstar Chorus is a genuine hidden gem. Rugged, original, highly musical, and capable of everything from subtle signal enhancement to massive, lush modulation textures, it perfectly represents the philosophy behind Rocktron’s best designs: prioritizing tone, musicality, and durability over trends and gimmicks. For players who love beautiful clean tones, lush textures, and deep, expressive modulation, the Dreamstar is easily one of the most interesting and unique pedals in the entire Rocktron Boutique Series.
