Price:
If we detail the price of this instrument, it gives 1370€ without taking into account the days of work on it for the transformation and the luthier's work.
- Gretsch G5655 = 990 €
- TV Jones Classic = 150 €
- Duesenberg wraparound = 70 €
- Graphtech saddles = 40 €
- Bishop hat = 40 €
- Malcolm signature = 40 €
- Bullet head = 20 €
- cabling + potentiometer CTS = 20 €
Characteristics:
- Instrument modified according to the specifications of the Malcolm guitar in the late 76 to early 96 period of AC/DC
- Weight of the guitar: about 3.1kgs (like the Malcolm Young signature MYI and MYII, and like the Malcolm Custom Shop and Signature Japan) knowing that a G6131T-62 vintage select is 3,6kgs!
- Keeping perfect tuning
- Guitar maintained and adjusted by luthier
- Optimized for 13-56 wound G (like Malcolm)
Base of replica:
Excellent Gretsch G5655 Center Block. I chose this base to build this Replica because :
* it's a good original guitar, which is very nice to play, otherwise more upscale and playable than a Synchromatic !
* this guitar is rare and was little produced because Gretsch sold only his little sister G5441-5445-5448 the same look but with much less resonant body
* it is more hollow (chambered) than all other Chinese Jet
* it already sounds balanced and powerful unplugged. This internal cavity resonance is one of the main features of Malcom's percussive, powerful and short sustain sound
* the semicircle inlays of the seam are consistent with those of Malcolm
* the handle is very nice
Modifications:
- Maple table sanded and protected by a hard natural oil to let the wood breathe and have maximum resonance.
A wood that breathes is a wood that dries and ages in the best conditions. One of the secrets of the sound of a vintage instrument is that its wood has dried, the fibers are strained and the resonance is increased
- Light relic of black parts in matt black
- Micro TV Jones Classic Neck which is close to a filtertron 60's (4.0kOhms / standard pole-to-pole / lightly wax-spotted). The height and the studs have been adjusted to the nearest Malcolm (base Malcolm Custom Shop setting that has studs set surprisingly). The sound is transfigured !
- 1 CTS high-end potentiometer for volume / Switchcraft jack / wiring with high quality shielded cable
- Locking + string cut Tuning Machines
- Duesenberg bridge type wraparound with Graphtech saddles
- Black plate US 'bishop hat' consistent with what Malcolm had at that time (rare)
- Truss-rod cover with signature 'Malcolm Young' (rare)
- 'bullet head' to replace potentiometer slots
