The Roland CR-1000 is a 8 bit PCM preset digital drum machine from 1986 offering a lo-fi sound palette with16 basic, non-editable PCM sound sources and 24 rhythm patterns, with 2 variations for each. While limited, it features useful controls for individual sound levels, accent and shuffle. The sounds are similar to those of the TR-505, with both standard drums sounds and Latin percussion. Tempo, accent level and shuffle time are all adjustable and can be stored to each pattern. Its main advantages are its unique 80s vibe metronomic beats and the ability to create basic song structures with rhythm variation, fill-ins, intro/ending and clap variation, making it a charming addition to a vintage electronic setup. It offer MIDI In and Thru, enabling to be controlled by other sequencers or MIDI keyboards. The use of foot switches can control start/stop, fill-ins and restart, making it easy to use with other gear.
