This particular example is a Fender Special Run from that year: Surf Green with a matching painted headstock, a combination produced for 2009 only and not part of the standard lineup. These have become genuinely sought-after for players who want an American Standard with a little more visual character than the catalogue colours offered.The alder body carries the Surf Green finish well — a colour Fender has periodically revisited since the early '60s, and one that looks as good in person as it does in photos. The three American Standard Alnico V single-coils are wired through Fender's Delta Tone system, which includes a high-output bridge pickup and a no-load tone control on the middle and bridge positions — effectively removing the tone circuit from the signal path at full rotation for a cleaner, more direct sound.
