Here is one you don’t see every day... up for sale is my Stephenson LJ-10 head.
This is a high-end lunchbox amp hand made on Vancouver Island in Canada. I’ve never seen another one for sale during my time on Reverb, and Mark doesn’t build them any more to my knowledge (current Stephenson amps are all higher wattage and very expensive).
Although it’s called an LJ-10, this is a 15 Watt amp; it gets nice and loud despite its tiny footprint. I would describe it as being in the Vox camp with a dash of tweed Fender rolled in. It has A LOT of gain but it’s not a metal-voiced amp; think dimed AC15. A few of the Trainwreck videos I’ve watched have some similarities as well. It takes one 6v6 and one el84 power tube, and is self-biasing.
For such a small amp the LJ-10 has lots of features including an FX loop and a unique pentode/ultra-linear switch for the output section. Most importantly, it has London Power Scaling built in rather than a master volume, so you can get great power tube tone at very low levels. Finally - from a practical perspective - this amp is very light and easily fits in a backpack or gig bag. Paired with a 1x12 it’s super portable.
As for the condition the amp is in nice shape save a few small scratches in the metal housing. It is an early LJ-10 and has a definite hand made vibe. The indicator light is intermittent and needs to be replaced, but there are no sonic or functional issues, and no mods to my knowledge (I’ve owned it for about 10 years).
Please reach out if you have any questions or would like more pics/info. Shipping figures are just placeholders but I would be happy to work out an exact quote. Thanks for looking!
