Vintage Fostex Model 80 8-track reel-to-reel multitrack recorder, made in Japan.
The Model 80 is a classic early 1980s/1985-era professional/home-studio multitrack machine designed for recording eight tracks onto 1/4" tape at 15 ips.
This is a particularly interesting machine for collectors and users of vintage analogue recording equipment, home studios and 1980s multitrack setups.
Vintage used condition with normal cosmetic marks, scratches and signs of age.
The machine powers on and the front-panel buttons appear to respond when pressed.
However, I do not currently have the equipment required to fully test the machine, so I have not been able to verify:
- Tape transport
- Reel motor operation under load
- Capstan operation
- Fast forward / rewind
- Playback
- Recording
- Audio input/output
- Individual track operation
- Heads
- Dolby C operation
- Pitch control
- Long-term transport reliability
For this reason, the recorder is being sold as UNTESTED / AS-IS, despite powering on and the controls appearing responsive.
I cannot guarantee that the machine will be fully operational without servicing or further testing.
