Reverend Charger H90 in Feisty Red
The Reverend Charger is among the most recognisable guitars in Reverend’s range, beloved by players who want a simple guitar evocative of the earliest mid-century bolt-on’s. Part of Reverend’s appeal is a commitment to continuous development of their range, and this latest Charger H90 is no exception. The familiar body has been ever-so-slightly slimmed down for increased comfort and lighter weight, while a new solid aluminum string block provides a stable and solid anchor for the strings, improving sustain, clarity, and tuning stability. The Roasted Maple neck is as good as ever, while a new “Charger” logo sits proud on the headstock.Reverend have thoroughly overhauled their in-house humbucker and P90 pickups, both of which are fitted to the Charger H90. The new Steelhead Humbucker and P90 feature oversize steel poles which boost upper frequency response and headroom, for enhanced harmonics and responsive pick attack. The wide magnetic field eliminates volume drop off when bending, while the G and high E poles are slightly taller, for consistent volume string to string.
The humbucker has been further upgraded with double magnet construction. An Alnico 5 magnet delivers smooth tone with shimmering highs. A second Ceramic magnet on the opposite side from the steel poles, boosts the bass response, making for a perfectly balanced tonal spectrum.
On the P90, two matched coils cancel the annoying hum common with traditional designs. The coils are turned sideways, allowing both magnets to be focused on a single row of steel poles, yielding the single-coil snap and punch you expect from a P90.
These hugely versatile pickups respectively offer the rich and thick tone of a classic humbucker, and raw and gritty tone of a classic P90, but both with the punch and responsive pick attack of a modern design!
For ultimate control, the Charger H90 is fitted with Reverend’s exclusive Bass Contour control. This control allows you to passively roll off the bass frequencies, tightening the pickups’ response and making a humbucker or P90 sound much more like a traditional single-coil. Because the control is potentiometer rather than switch activated, you effectively have an infinite level of control, allowing you to dial in your perfect tone.
As with all Reverend guitars, the Charger H90 is built with premium components throughout, including those you can’t see. It uses more consistent ±10% tolerance pots and capacitors (rather than the ±20% parts found on most guitars), and a Pure Tone output jack with dual contacts for a firmer connection, better signal transfer, and improved reliability. A treble bleed circuit maintains clarity when rolling back the volume, while the boneite nut minimises friction, helping the strings glide smoothly through the nut slots for enhanced tuning stability.
Classic sensibility meets modern engineering in the reimagined Reverend Charger H90.
