The Golden Era: Martin guitars from this period are universally referred to as being from the "Golden Era" due to their lightweight, scalloped X-bracing and resonance. Body & Wood: Both the top and the body are made of solid mahogany. This gives the guitar a famously warm, dry, and woody mid-range tone.Neck & Hardware: 1931 models feature 12 frets to the body and a V-shaped mahogany neck, a shorter 24.78-inch scale length, and a 1 3/4-inch nut width. They also feature 1930s-style bar frets, which can sometimes be more difficult to level and set up compared to modern T-frets.Historical Markings: 1931 was a pivotal transitional year for Martin. It marked the first time Martin began stamping model numbers on the neck block, and saw the early rollout of the "Martin" decal on headstocks.Rarity The 1-17 is considered a very rare model, with no production occurring between 1917 and 1930. Just 525 units were made in 1931,About Capital City Guitars:We are a small brick and mortar music store, we take pride in earning the respect of our customers.
